The Misanthropic Humanist
How and why to be a good person, despite everyone else in the world apparently being arseholes.
The Misanthropic Humanist is a (forthcoming) book. It's a seriously irreverent and irreverently serious look at how not to be a dick in a world that seems full of them. It covers topics such as ethics, philosophy, science, skepticism, politics, the class struggle, humanism, secularism, free-will, justice, and what it means to be "woke" while most people don't even know they're sleepwalking through life.
P.S. It's fucking sweary.
About the Author
Tim McGregor is a chartered engineer, skeptic, secular humanist, atheist, and lifelong practitioner of exasperated headshaking. A graduate in both computer science and medical physics, he designs software for particle accelerators, which—while important—sadly doesn't involve shooting lasers at supervillains.A former rock DJ and founder of Skeptics in the Pub Brighton, Tim has spent years championing science, skepticism, and the fine art of calling bollocks on nonsense. His passion for rational thinking—and healthy loathing for hereditary privilege—led him to write The Misanthropic Humanist, an exploration of what it means to try to be good in a world full of arseholes. In (metaphorical) past lives, he dabbled in martial arts, potholing, and rock climbing — until stabbed with a broadsword at Tewkesbury. He also trained armies and police in weapons systems, which comes up surprisingly little in his current day job. These days he prefers to do battle at modern board games, poker and pub arguments. He is not entirely fictional, but characters based on him appear in Robert Rankin’s novels, which is arguably better.
